Where to stay in Marrakech

Compare three areas in Marrakech and choose a base for your trip.

Choose around your plans

Where to stay: our starting recommendation

Choose the Medina when souks and a riad define the stay, Gueliz for shops and dining, or the Palmeraie when you will mainly use resort facilities.

A practical check for this destination
For a riad in the Medina, ask where a car can drop you and whether the property can help with luggage. If you prefer Guéliz, check the route to your first visit in the Medina.

Places to avoid: location, noise and access

These are locations that may not suit your trip. This is not a ranking of dangerous neighbourhoods.

  • Medina: avoid booking without a clear arrival meeting point. Ask how to reach the riad from the drop-off and who will meet you.
  • Palmeraie and Agdal: rule out a resort without suitable transport if you plan daily visits to the centre. Check shuttle times, destinations and return cost.
  • Hivernage or a riad hosting events: do not assume quiet. Read recent reviews about evenings, terraces and room position.

Safety: plan your stay

A neighbourhood name or a good hotel rating does not guarantee safety. Plan your arrival and return journeys, and consult official travel advice before departure.

Hivernage

Before booking

Compare the total price for the same dates and number of travellers. Check the route from the property to your first two stops, along with taxes and the cancellation deadline.

Getting around

Choose your area, plan your arrival and check the full cost.

For a short stay

Build your stay around your first two visits. Compare the exact hotel addresses and the time you will spend getting between them.

If location matters most

Check the route at the time you will actually travel. Look for steps, a difficult walk with luggage or a last connection that leaves too early.

A simple plan for your first two days

On arrival day, use one nearby activity to get your bearings and check the return route. On day two, group visits in the same area so you can see how much travel your hotel location adds.

Trip budget

If you are watching your budget

Add the costs of getting around and any meals you would otherwise buy. A lower nightly rate is only a saving if the extra costs stay below the difference.

The total to compare

Use the same dates, room occupancy and cancellation policy. Add mandatory charges, airport transfers and the local journeys you expect to make.

What to check before you pay

Check your room category, included meals, final price and cancellation deadline. For a late arrival, confirm reception hours and how you will get your key.

Compare accommodation after checking the area

Search your dates, locate the address on a map and compare the terms of the exact room.
